Our Team

Chris Brodie

Chris is Managing Director of Slims Consulting and has over 10 years experience working as an economic development consultant.  He has worked extensively across Scotland and the UK for Scottish Enterprise, the Scottish Government, Local Authorities, Urban Regeneration Companies, Further and Higher Education Institutions and Regional Development Agencies.  

His key areas of expertise include:

  

  • Assessment of the effectiveness of economic strategy and policy
  • Strategy development and evaluation of business support policy, including international trade, innovation and enterprise support programmes.
  • Economic appraisal and assessment of major development proposals and regeneration projects
  • Policy development and evaluation of skills and employability programmes
  • Development of regeneration and development strategies
  • Carrying out business planning and feasibility studies.   

Prior to joining Slims Consulting Chris was Associate Director at a UK wide economic consultancy company and acted as manager of the company’s office in the South West of England.  He has previously worked for the international planning and economic consultancy, EDAW, and yellow book. 

 


Chris Boyd

Chris Boyd is an Associate Director with a breadth of experience across Learning and Skills, Business Competitiveness and Policy and Economics.  He has worked extensively across the UK, project managing a range of high profile studies for Scottish Enterprise, the Scottish Government, Local Authorities and the English RDAs.

Chris has primary responsibility for overseeing evaluation and economic impact work at Slims Consulting.  He has a particular interest in the business support field and has evaluated several of Scottish Enterprise''s flagship programmes including the Account and Client Management Programme, Business Gateway, the Scottish co-Investment Fund and the High Growth Start-Up Unit.  In addition, he is familiar with undertaking economic impact assessments in accordance with BERR, HM Treasury Green Book and Scottish Enterprise guidance.

 

Prior to joining Slims Consulting, Chris spent four years with a UK-wide economic development consultancy.  He holds a first class BA (Hons) in Behavioural Science and Research Methods from the University of the West of Scotland and an MSc with Distinction in Local Economic Development from the University of Glasgow.

 


Susan Mackay

Susan is a Consultant with more than six years experience in the field of economic development.  She is responsible for the delivery of Slims Consulting member services, which includes the provision of annual Economic Statements for member areas.  These are comprehensive documents covering all of the main official economic and labour market indicators, with specific reference to performance against local and national targets and the policy implications arising from this.

Since joining Slims Consulting, Susan has been involved in a wide variety of projects for a range of different clients.  Recent work includes providing assistance to local authorities in revising their SOA targets in light of the current economic downturn, assessing progress made by colleges in terms of engaging with the MCMC target group and estimating the social and economic impacts associated with a proposed new mixed-use development in Edinburgh.

Prior to joining Slims Consulting, Susan worked for Cogent Strategies International Ltd – an economic development consultancy.  Her work there included a feasibility study of a chemicals-specialising incubator in Yorkshire, and an examination of the past and future growth of Inverness as a city.  She was also involved in several economic impact studies, including the impact of youth hostels on the Lake District economy, the impact of angling in Scotland and the impact of several major sporting events on the East Midlands economy.   

 


Katie Fox

Katie is a Consultant specialising in the analysis of economic and labour market statistics for small level, regional and national geographies.

Since joining Slims Consulting in 2008, Kate has been involved in a number of projects.  She has participated in the creation of a series of Economic Reviews for Scottish Enterprise operating regions.  She has also been involved in the analysis of Further Education participation data as well as the analysis of employment figures for key industry sectors.

Prior to joining Slims Consulting, Katie worked for GSWRA - a regeneration agency based in the South West of Glasgow.  During her time there, Katie was involved in the analysis of small level data, which included mapping key benefit claimants across the area, benchmarking the performance of the local labour market against regional and national comparators and analysing internal performance data.  Katie also worked as part of a small team to support the growth of the social economy within the community through the provision of evidence to support funding applications to funders including the Big Lottery, Fairer Scotland and ESF.


 

Graeme Brodie

Graeme is a Research Consultant with Slims Consulting.  Since joining the company in August 2008, Graeme has been involved in several projects.  He assisted in supporting the delivery of the annual Economic Statements produced for member areas across West and Central Scotland.  He has also been responsible for the provision of economic data and analysis across a range of projects.  These include analysis of progress made against College action plans by a number of FE Colleges in terms of targeting the MCMC group, and a range of regional and national Economic Reviews that Slims Consulting are carrying out on behalf of Scottish Enterprise.  Graeme is currently involved in a study assessing the economic impact of Paisley''s HE and FE institutions on the town centre, as well as an evaluation of the activities of Local Construction Forums in the SE East Operating Region.

Graeme has an undergraduate degree from Strathclyde University and is working towards an MSc in Urban and Regional Planning at Heriot Watt University.
